Lance Armstrong Completes Another Grueling Leadville Trail 100 MTB, Finishes 828th
Lance Armstrong took part in the Leadville Trail 100 MTB race on Saturday, where the former American cyclist completed the demanding course in just over 10 hours, securing the 828th position out of 1,468 participants in Colorado. Armstrong, who had previously won the mountain bike race in 2009 during his professional career, is now banned from cycling for life by the UCI. Despite this, he remains active, hosting a successful podcast called THEMOVE and dedicating considerable time to fitness.
On Saturday, the 52-year-old returned to the challenging Leadville Trail 100 MTB, finishing the 105-mile (approximately 169 kilometers) race in 10 hours, 27 minutes, and 4 seconds, with an average speed of 10.05 miles per hour (about 17 kilometers per hour). These figures highlight the rigorous nature of the race.
During the event, Armstrong also shared his thoughts on the ongoing Tour of Burgos. He expressed excitement about the race and predicted that Remco Evenepoel, the defending champion, would take the overall victory again. Armstrong praised Evenepoel’s form and strategic racing, saying, “Remco has been unstoppable this season, and I believe he’ll continue to dominate at Burgos.”
The Leadville Trail 100 MTB was won by American off-road star Keegan Swenson, who completed the race in 5 hours, 49 minutes, and 8 seconds, finishing 15 minutes ahead of the runner-up, John Gaston. Cole Paton secured third place a few minutes later. Other notable gravel riders such as Russel Finsterwald, Alex Wild, and Lachlan Morton also finished in the top ten, with Morton, the winner of this year’s Unbound, coming in fourth. He was 20 minutes behind Swenson, who placed fifth in last year’s World Gravel Championship in Veneto, Italy.
Further down the leaderboard, former professional cyclists like Peter Stetina (12th), Alex Howes (25th), Petr Vakoc (35th, previously of Quick-Step), and Alexey Vermeulen (113th, formerly of Lotto-NL-Jumbo) also participated.
