Iga Swiatek is currently without a permanent coach after her amicable split from Tomasz Wiktorowski, who had guided her to significant success, including four Grand Slam titles. Following her quarterfinal loss to Jessica Pegula at the US Open, Swiatek withdrew from the upcoming WTA 1000 tournaments in Beijing and Wuhan, citing personal reasons. Her absence from the Asian swing has affected her chances of finishing the year as the world No. 1, a position Aryna Sabalenka is poised to take after reaching the quarterfinals in Wuhan.
To maintain her competitive edge, Swiatek is temporarily working with Dawid Celt, the captain of Poland’s Billie Jean King Cup team. Celt previously collaborated with Wiktorowski and supported Agnieszka Radwanska, who is now his wife. However, Swiatek opted not to join the Polish team for the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup finals, which may hinder Celt’s chances of continuing to assist her.
Looking ahead, Swiatek is seeking a non-Polish permanent coach, effectively ruling Celt out of consideration. Journalist Marek Furjan suggested potential candidates, including German Torben Beltz, known for his successful tenure with Angelique Kerber, during which she won multiple major titles in 2016. Other possibilities include David Kotyza, who has coached players like Karolina Muchova and Karolina Pliskova, and Raemon Sluiter, who recently parted ways with Elina Svitolina.
Furjan also highlighted the potential for Swiatek to hire a female coach, with candidates like Amelie Mauresmo, Andy Murray’s former coach, and Anabel Medina Garrigues, who previously coached Jelena Ostapenko. As Swiatek prepares for the WTA Finals in November, securing the right coaching support will be vital for her success.
