A Newcastle band, the Baghdaddies, will perform at The Glittering North this autumn, offering fans one of their final chances to see them live before they conclude their 28-year career. Known for their vibrant mix of world music, including Balkan tunes and ska, the band will take the stage at the Dutch Barn, part of the immersive event at Raby Castle, Park and Garden.
The venue will be transformed with lights, flags, and decorations, setting the scene for a night of lively music and dazzling performances. The Baghdaddies will entertain audiences with their energetic fiddles and brass instruments, while fire performers and puppetry add to the spectacle. Their performance aims to celebrate the region’s Norse and Viking heritage, engaging visitors of all ages.
Ziad Jabero from the Baghdaddies expressed excitement about their involvement in The Glittering North, highlighting their theatrical performance style, influenced by their street theatre background. This year marks the band’s final performances, with the shows at Raby Castle being among their last.
The Glittering North will feature a variety of attractions, including puppetry and light displays that bring historical figures to life. The remodeled 18th-century Walled Garden will host a “trail of the north,” filled with illuminated scenes and photo opportunities, alongside tales of Norse mythology and folklore.
Sophie Brown, Raby Estate’s sales and events manager, emphasized that the event will engage all senses, from visual delights to autumnal scents and delicious treats. The Baghdaddies’ music will be a highlight, providing an upbeat atmosphere throughout the castle grounds.
The Glittering North runs on select dates from October 12 to November 3, with tickets priced at £20 for adults and £13 for children.
